Montessori School Doubts

Hello Everyone, Am back again with a few more questions. We have decided to stay at Wimbledon. In my anxiety wrt admissions into state schools ( my child will be in Primary 1 in Spe 2012 according to the London schooling system), I emailed a couple of Montessori schools requesting more information about admission for 5 year olds. They got back saying they do not have full day schools for kids of that age. Can someone please recommend a Montessori in the Wimbledon area, their admission procedure and fee structure( if possible)? Also what is the usual cut- off age for kids wanting to go to Montessori in the UK? Thank You! Happy Holidays!

In the UK most Montessori 'schools' are actually nurseries.

There are only a handful of Montessori schools in the whole of London. I don't think their are any anywhere near Wimbledon.

There are 3 in Wimbledon (that I can think of) and 1 in Wimb Park. But yes they are nurseries - up to age 5 I think.

www.montessorisociety.org.uk/ Look at this website, it lists schools on it. The AMI schools or nurseries are "pure" Montessori schools, they like the materials to be used just as Maria Montessori suggested they should be. I know there are schools till 6 and 11 years old in bayswater, Notting hill, west hampstead, hampstead, islington, crouch end and walthamstow but I guess they are all too far away for you. I've heard of some Montessori free schools being opened but usually just outside London. Most of the schools I suggested have fees similar or a little less to independent schools. They usually group the kids 3 to 6 years, then 6 to 9, then 9 to 11. I'm not sure what the gower does In Islington but they have a website.
