How can I really find out how my child is doing at school

My DS goes to an infant school and she has to leave next year. We are looking at schools, and some of them have admission tests. I don't want to put her through anything that she is not right for, so I am trying to find out from school how she is doing compared to her year group. I would like to find out what roughly she would score on the SATS, but the teacher said she could not tell me this. What information can I expect the teacher to tell me?

Should I get an independent assessor? Has anyone done this?

I think you should have a chat with the teacher.

Say you're trying to decide whether to put her forward for selective schools and does she think a selective school would be right for your child.

Because that is actually the info you want to find out.....

Alternatively, I'm sure the selective schools will give you a rough idea of the things your child should be able to do. I presume they'd expect her to be a fluent reader for starters.....

Look on the Internet for schools that publish a 7+ sample paper. That should give you an idea of the sort of stuff she would be expected to know
