How many syllables are in 'poisonous'? Not sure if two or three?

DD says three,but I am not sure if poi-so-nous or pois-nous(with a silent /o/)

Thanks

I'd say 3

3 - the middle "o" is an unstressed vowel, but you still include it when you say it - poi son ous.

Thank you! You think you know these things until you are asked!

I'd say three. It will tell you in a dictionary for sure.

A really good site www.howmanysyllables.com/words/poisonous.html

I would say three, although when speaking quickly, we tend to contract words by omiting the unstressed vowel. However, for spelling purposes, it is much more useful to stick to the original three.

Lovely website mrz,but is the first word there 'wicked' as in not kind or 'wicked' as a past tense? I am quite confused because I'd have thought the former- 'wicked' has two syllables?

It's how teenagers pronounce it! e.g. 'How wick'd is that'. Grin
