Reading Age

Does anybody know what the average reading age of a 6.5 year old child in Year 2 should be? My son is about to move schools and his new school has asked for a reading age. His current teacher has carried out the Salford Reading Test with him and he came out with 7 years 3 months. I was feeling very happy about it until I started to research it on the internet. I read somewhere that children should be 1 year above their real age. Does this mean my son is actually below average? Very confused!

If the school test him with a variety of reading tests each will give a different reading age so it isn't a terribly reliable measure.

He's only just 'off' a year ahead and as mrz says different tests come out differently. Sounds pretty normal to me.
