SEN statement

I am posting for the 1st time so hope this post is in the right place:) DS (3yr 10 mo, diagnosed with severe language delay and global development delay) will be visited at home by the LA?s Educational Psychologist this week. The aim is to get the assessment process for his SEN started.

I?m new to the whole process. Would appreciate any advice on what I should aim to get out of the meeting. She said that the statement process will take 6 months and will be ready for when he starts reception at a state primary in Sept 2012.

He is currently at a private nursery (not receiving much additional help). Will the local authority be able to provide additional help till he starts reception? Sorry I am clueless but would like to know our rights.

Many thanks

Mum
