Are teachers ever removed from the classroom for poor performance?

Would be very interested to hear from other MN's to see if they have any experience of this. My DD1 is currently being taught (or not as the case may be) by a teacher who has had numerous compaints made about her teaching skills and behaviour management over many years. So far this term I know she has been invited to have a 'chat' with the headmaster twice about issues raised by concerned parents - however from what I can see nothing has been done to positively address the issue. Do teachers ever get sacked??

Two quick questions OP

  1. How do you know the teacher has been "invited" for a chat with the headteacher twice about conerns raised by parents?
  2. How do you know nothing is being done to address the issue?

I ask because that sort of thing is not usually public knowledge for the parents of a school.

I feel that I cannot judge how good my Ds' (6) teacher is without seeing her a couple of her lessons.

A lot of parents here seem to know a lot of their DC's teacher's capabilities. How do you know?

If I speak to the teacher, she is polite, helpful (this year's anyway) and seems to know what she is doing, but I don't really know any more.

ButWhy - only something like 18 teachers have had their qualification To teach revoked for incompetence in around 40 years. The story you just recounted gives some idea of why Hmm

Most teachers will resign / retire before it gets to the point of having your teaching qualification revoked though.
