i am such a twit!
i think i have messed up ds2's school application and now i don't know what to do :(

we desperately want him to go to the school ds1 is at. siblings do get priority, so that shouldn't be a problem.

when i was putting my preferences down there were boxes you could tick. one was for siblings, so i ticked that one. there was another one that said "catchment" so i ticked that too because the catchment for the school is the whole of our town, so we are in the catchment area for it,

however, i realise now that it means is it your actual catchment school. ie, the default one you'd get sent to, your closest one. which is a different school altogether.,

so now i am worried that they will think i am lying about where we live or something and so will ignore it and he won't get a place :(

Don't you have to put the actual names of the schools down on the form though?

Give your LA a ring and double check.

Not worth losing sleep over as long as you're totally honest.

yes, the name of the school is down, i chose that from a list (did it online) and then next to it you could check boxes for why you wanted it

so, siblings, catchment, statement etc etc

and i thought it just meant are you in the catchment for it, which we are. but what it actually means is if it's your catchment school, which it isn't.

confused yet? Grin

No, I get it now. Grin Its been a while since I did mine. They are not going to give the boxes a higher priority than the names though. Ring them tomorrow so you don't have to worry about it again.

But you are in the catchment for more than one school. I thought that just meant if you were in the correct area for that school..not necessarily your closest. And therefore, if you weren't in the catchment, what other reasons do you have for choosing that school...ie statement / sibling....if you are correct and catchment does mean closest, then I'm fairly confident you won't be the only person to have done this!

well what it is, everyone has a catchment school which is a regular state primary school. it's the one you would be automatically put in if you didn't put any choices down iyswim?. ours is the one down the road.

however we are also in the catchment for 2 others. one is a church school that you have to do a separate application for to the school as well, and the other is a new free school that has the entire town as its catchment area

If you are applying for a primary school place you still have plenty of time to change your application. The deadline is 15th January.

Having said that, I find your comments on catchment a little confusing. It may help to know which LA you are in. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post that publicly.
