St. Michael's Prep in Otford or Sevenoaks Prep?

Hi,

My DS has a place at both of the Schools above, but I am torn between the two. All I know about the Schools is that both of them are good, does anyone have children at these Schools or any experience of them? I would like to know what the difference is between them, so I can choose a School that suits my DS.

I have a friend who used to work at St M's and she said it was a bit fur coat and no knickers; nice facilities to impress the parents but not providing the basics (like enough books). Don't know about Sev Prep though (except that it looks a gorgeous setting.

My brother boarded at St michaels years ago.
I expect it's a different management team now but he had a marvellous time and he was very dyslexic which they did wonders for.

They are both widely recognised prep schools. They both get good resuts. Which is nearer to your home?

Both Schools are about the same distance from us. St Michael's seemed very academic, but friendly and Sevenoaks Prep came across warm, friendly and centred around what the children wanted... Just wondered if anyone else had any other views or could add to that?

We looked at both and each had their merits (certainly couldnt beat StM on facilities!). In the end though we chose russell house and haven't looked back. Not that that was your question!

Hi Taurean,

Do you have a son or daughter at RH? I could see my Ds being happy at the Prep and I guess that's what I need to go on... what would suit him. Did you have the same feeling about RH? The facilities are amazing at St. Michaels though!

Sounds like the prep is just right for you then. We had exactly same feeling for our ds at rh, couldn't say exactly why just felt right. We also now have a dd there. Think gut instinct is best, must say didn't get any feeling from StM accept noticing the facilities although I've heard good things about it too. Guess each to their own. Hope it works out well for you!

Hi.. DD went to St Michael's . Loved it academic, sporting, great all round school.. Take a look at their web site and outstanding inspection report. ( certainly no shortage go books!!). She went from there to grammar school.. Good luck in your choice

I know children who have been to Sevenoaks and loved it and done really well. I am told (don't know) that sevenoaks has more of the 'traditional' prep school families, and St M has more 'first time' families.

If you took away the standard of facilities, would Sevenoaks win for you? If so then take heed at the fur coat and no knickers comment.

Sauvignon - My friend had to resort to buying books for the children in her class from her teacher's salary at St M's... She's lovely and a wonderful teacher and I'm sure any children in her class would have done very well so not surprised your DD did. That doesn't mean the school is as well managed as the face they show the parents though.

Hi there. We are the point of choosing a prep school for DD. We are considering Sevenoaks Prep, St Michaels and Rose Hill. DH seems to really like St Michaels, I'm torn between Sevenoaks Prep and Rose Hill. I'm keen in academics and a place where DD's talents will develop and flourish. Thank you.

Ayknot · 18/10/2014 23:52

** keen on
