Newberries School in Radlett or Private school

Our daughter didn't get a place at a good primary state school so we put her in a private school. We're happy with the school and she is making excellent progress. She is in a class of 9. However, she has just been offered a place at Newberries School in Radlett which I have heard great things about and SATS/Ofsted are good. Money is tight but we can afford it with sacrifices. Daughter is happy at current school but happy to move. Does any reader have any comments about Newberries school? My daughter will be going into Year 1. Thanks

Well since she is early on in her education and you think Newberries is AS good as her private school, then it is worth thinking about. Since you say money is tight, it might be more worth to save the money now and send her to a school which is as good as Newberries is and then send her onto a private secondary since there are so many fantastic ones in the Radlett area.

I would move her. Newberries is a really good school with nice children and a good number of them go onto either selective states and good privates.

Stay in the private sector if you can afford it - it is fair to leave spaces in state schools for children who can't afford private.

Why on earth should she stay private just because she can afford to if she doesn't want to. Yes, she is lucky enough to have a choice but everyone is entitled to a state education if they want it. Newberries is a heavily oversubscribed school in an extremely affluent area. I suspect many of the parents there could afford school fees but that doesn't mean that they should.

Newberries is a great school in a nice area. It is very oversubscribed as it has an excellent local reputation.

I had it down as second choice for my daughter, but got my first choice eventually (St Johns). I think I was sitting at about No.34 on the waiting list for Newberries.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Have you been to look round Newberries? That seems the obvious start. It will tell you far more than an Ofsted report and its reputation (which is often out of date).
