sounds like she is doing very well, basically your child produces work, the teachers take evidence of it and mark them off on a bit sheet , they highlight the bits they can see they have acheived. it goes up to 9, i think my son went in reception mainly on 5's and left reception on 8/9's which give him a good start to year 1, although his piers who left reception on 7's for example are doing as well as him now in year 1. be proud

I think that'd be the EYFS profile.
It's okay I can't imagine you'd be expected to know what the numbers mean.
I didn't when my DD was going through EYFS (she's 7 now) and I don't feel lacking in any important info or anything.
If their chuffed it all sounds good.

There are about 16 different areas in the EYFS profile against which a child is assessed (includes from things like reading and numeracy, to social and emotional behaviour etc).

There are 8 early learning goals in each area. They are not sequential and the child may complete in any order. Once a child has completed all 8 goal there is a 9th goal which means they are working at NC level (i.e. beyond the level expected in Reception).

The "average" child achieves 5s and 6s in each area at the end of Reception so your DGC is almost at that level already and we are only half a term into the year. So as PPs have said he is doing very well.
