What does everyone else put in their shoe boxes? Just wondering what to put in this year, how much to spend etc.

It can easily be done on about £5 a box, plus £2.50 donation to send it off. We normally do a small notebook and colouring pencils/crayons, chalk, a handful of sweets, a small toy, toothbrush and toothpaste, small novelty toys such as yoyos etc. Hawkins bazaar is really great for this sort of thing :)

Sigh. Samaritans Purse is so accepted where we live now, the church even holds a church service for the kids to hand over their boxes, they get shown videos at school. DD insists she's doing one, doesn't want to be left out and called mean by her friends. It was banned where we used to live.

I think people should be aware of the background then they can make an informed choice

I'm not familiar with Samaritans Purse. This isn't the charity our school supports. They support a local charity who, whilst are Christian based, work with all faiths, in orphanages etc.

If they are asking for a fee to send off the box as RiaMelia describes it is probably organised by Samaritans Purse (Operation Christmas Child) a Christian based organisation
