I think i am becoming an over anxious controlling mum! Even though ds is doing well i worry about him progressing and staying in top groups. I wish i could just relax and be glad he enjoys school and trust him to just get on with it.

I have decided that from now on i won't quiz him about what he has done at school but wait for him to tell me. (He can never remember anyway). How can i take a more relaxed approach to getting him to do his homework? I feel i can't rely on school to teach a class of 30 without back up from home, but is that me not wanting to give up control over my ds?

Not really. You started teaching him at home a very long time before we went to school! Children don't stop learning at 3.30pm.

Do you have actual concerns about his school or progression or is it a bit more abstract than that?

Try thinking about it in the way that school is not just for the purposes of academic education. Children need to learn to co-exist with others, organise themselves, understand different ways of communicating and learning, learn through play, socialise, physical development. There is so much more to all round development of a child, and all these things have an impact on their future - don't get bogged down with results and test scores!
