DS is reading them now. He's 7.5, but has a reading age of 9.5.

Ds tried them at the start of this year and tbh struggled - hes 8 and I reckon it will probably be another year before hes comfortable with them.hth

Depends on the child really - I have a history obsessed nearly 6 year old and we've read a couple of them together and he's ok with them.

Snackbagoskulls · 31/10/2011 22:04

Oh I do tend to read ahead though so I can skip any really really gory parts!

Themumsnot · 31/10/2011 22:05

Contentwise it all depends on the child. DD3 has been reading them since she was 6 but she is a bloodthirsty child.

treas · 31/10/2011 22:05

My ds started reading these at 5 y.o. but he was an advanced reader and thrived on the gory details. Tends to be the heads on poles and weeping pustules content so depends on whether your son is of a sensitive disposition.

One child's Disney Film id another's Nightmare on Elmstreet!

Kewcumber · 31/10/2011 22:46

ditto depemds on child DS has been watching the programmes since he was 5 but not much scares him (except masks)

Joyn · 31/10/2011 22:52

My ds started reading them at 6 & he is actually quite sensitive (couldn't read spooky tales for 7 year olds). But he's fine with the blood & guts stuff.

We read some of them to our 4.5 yo, but they need some censoring and explanation.
