The council want people to go to their catchment schools instead of having the choice. The placement requests which were denied last year had tripled on the previous year.

Oh okay. DS1 is already at our catchment school for nursery and we're happy with it so no need to worry I guess. OP I assume that's not the case for you?

My concern is them attempting to prevent people deferring a child who desperately needs it. Plus deferals often free up spaces allowing other children to gain a place.

We've been very happy with our catchment school and it had a lot of denied requests last year.
