Hi there,

We are looking to move out next year from North Surrey to the haslemere - ish area depending on which school we choose. I have 2 boys, 8 and 3 yrs.

Can anyone offer any recommendations between, Aldro, Haslemere Prep, St Edmunds, Amesbury etc

What really worries me is where they would go on to for Secondary as we have a well priced secondary where we are at the moment, but all the secondaries near here seem to be really expensive eg Cranleigh, Charterhouse etc. Not sure if we could afford those!!

Any help gratefully recieved, thank you.

Can't offer any recommendations, other than I've only heard good things about those schools. We have teenage DDs, and DS 5yrs old, and you are right, there is relatively little choice for boys at Senior School compared to the provision for girls.

The choices are:

Day
RGS, Guildford (highly academic)
The Royal School, Haslemere (think they will offer some Boys' Boarding in due course)

Boarding
King Edwards', Witley (also has day pupils)
Charterhouse (Boarding, hardly any day pupils)
Cranleigh (Boarding, think takes day pupils).

The Royal School, Haslemere is currently a Girls' School, but they are opening a Boys' Senior School on their Hindhead site - using the Diamond model. This is co-ed until Year 2, Years 3 - 11 single sex education, but shared trips, after school activities etc, and then co-ed at sixth form. More info here - www.royal-school.org/ and there is an Open Evening about the school on Wed 2nd November.

We're currently planning on DS attending either RGS or The Royal School - depending on what will suit him best at the time.

Thank you thats really helpful, I will have a look at The Royal School website and Dunhurst. I hear St Edmunds may open a secondary too so fingers crossed!!

Barrow Hills in Witley is another co-ed prep school that might be worth looking at and nearby you then have King Edwards in Witley (co-ed day pupils & boarding) for when they are older!!
