Handwriting Y1

dd is in Year 1 and her handwriting is not bad, but it's really hard to get her to understand how tall the letters should be in relation to each other and how they should line up, so for example if writing nk, both letters will (more often than not) be the same height.

I think the solution is probably to practise writing on specially lined paper, but the school worksheets that she has brought home don't have any lines at all, so she keeps making the same mistake all over the page. So two questions:

  1. can anyone recommend some good handwriting worksheets with lines to download for practising at home?

  2. should I bring this up at parents' evening, and if so what would be the best way to do this without looking like I'm trying to tell the teacher how to do her job. Would bringing in worksheets with lines as a suggestion be too much?

If you google 'handwriting sky grass ground' there is a link to a resource which I used when teaching ascenders and descenders in Y1.

Hope that helps.
