AIBU to expect a parent-teacher meeting this term for reception?

Most other schools I know of in the area (admittedly a small sample) are having parent-teacher meetings this term for reception pupils. I just asked DDs teacher and she said, no, they won't as they met with us once already. The meeting she's referring to is the one they have right at the beginning where they ask a few things about the child - preferences etc and ours was with the classroom assistant who is also DDs key worker. So there will be no formal parent-teacher evening until the spring term.

We have had very little info about how they approach the reception year - for example no homework or books have come home so far and I don't know whether/when to expect them. The teacher said 'you can book a meeting with us any time'. Am I just being a pushy parent or is it reasonable to request a meeting just to ask how DD is getting on (she seems happy but I get very little out of her) and what their approach is? I think I am a bit twitchy about the school as it has a mixed reputation (we ended up choosing it as it was the only non-faith based school that we could realistically get to), so wonder if I am over-reacting...

It is completely reasonable to ask for a meeting. Call the school and ask for one.

Definitely not unreasonable. We had our home visit in early September to discuss likes, dislikes etc, and our first parents "evening" (actually during the day, school was closed) last week.

DD's school have a parents evening every term, though...

I think most state primary schools have 2 parents eve a year. And it's up to them when they do them, so one term you don't have one.....

But it's always fine to have a quick chat if you're worried how your child is settling in.

If you have no concerns I wouldn't book a meeting - but you can :)

I feel spoiled now.

My son started in Year R. We've had two "settling in" visits to school this term (first two days of term accompanied by parents) plus a teacher home visit where the TA and teacher came to our house. We also had a drop in session in week 4 where parents are invited to see the Year R classroom and be shown it by their children.

We've also had a reading workshop which goes through how the school teaches and how you can support them and a maths workshop too.

Parents evening is just after half term.
