writing in year 2

My ds (year 2 )is great at writing, especially stories. All he seems to be doing at school is writing captions and sentences and labeling pictures. Is this normal for year 2 or would you expect them to be doing more?

It's very early in the term to worry, but they should be starting to differentiate between and giving them ability appropriate work.
