Has your school become an academy? What were the reasons and motivations that led your school to opting for this? What changes has it meant for you as a school?

Or have you as a school decided not to opt for it? What were your reasons?

We are about to have a big meeting about the future of our school and wether or not we are going to apply to be an academy and I just wanted to get some views and opinions from schools/parents that have already been there.

Isn't it only Secondaries that become Academies?

No, primary schools can and are becoming academies. My children attend a primary school in the next town as I couldn't get them into the local school, the local school has just become an academy.

There is no answer to this question, as it totally depends on the school and the LEA.

Some of the benefits of converting to an academy for us are:

  • Stop the LEA expanding the school
  • Stop the LEA merging the infants and juniors into one school
  • To save money
  • To be able to chose better suppliers than the ones the LEA recommends
  • To be able to give the TAs a pay rise.
