Today DC4's teacher

Not sure whether this should be in the 'am I being unreasonable' topic.

DC4 Yr1 had his first spelling test on Tuesday and hasn't bought home another list so today after school I asked his class teacher if he'd left it in the classroom so we could learn them over the weekend. Cue a 4 minutes questioning of which group he was in and what was on his last spelling list. At their school they split into small groups of no more than 8 for 'read write inc' and maths every morning. End of the discussion the teacher asks DC4 who his group leader is.... DC4 replies YOU ARE. So the class teacher has been teaching him for 3 weeks - teaches him in a small group of 8 every morning but doesn't actually know.... I'd love a reasonable explanation for this and I was really please when DC4 got this particular teacher - but actually I just think the teacher is wrong!

I expect she/he was worn out by friday afternoon and probably just having a ditzy moment. Teachers are human too!

I have done things like this occasionally and kicked myself all weekend worrying what the parents must think of me, dont kick up a fuss about a one off thing like this.

If it keeps happening, then you'd be right to be worried. did you get the spellings in the end?

I work with groups of kids and to be honest i even forget names. If the teacher had the same 8 to think about and no one else i'd find it surprising but although they work in small groups the teacher is actually focussed still on all the groups if you see what I mean. At the end of a tired week the teacher is probably frazzled and not thinking straight....

I must confess that even though I have a RWI group of my own, I can't always remember who is in it from my own class .

Luckily for me, the children in my class and in my phonics group know who they are and I have a list of which adult each child from my class is with (but not levels - I arrange it alphabetically by adult) so I do have back-up!
