How much homework does your yr2 child have?

My DD is now in year 2, this week we have been given a letter regarding homework tasks. I am a bit shocked at the amout of homework a 6 year old is expected to do, she has a weekly phonics task which takes about half an hour, 3 lots of maths tasks to do which have to be done on certain nights of the week, plus the usual reading and spellings. Also the teachers set tasks online on the schools intranet.

I dont recall having any set homework at that age and to be honest I think it is way too much.

Is this usual and if so how do your children cope?

Reading book, once a week and a choosing book which can be changed as little or as often as the child wants. Headmaster doesn't believe in homework Grin.

We are given a list of topics for the term, which we can do work on if we wish.

10 mins or more of reading every day.
10 word spellings list every friday for the next friday.
Every so often either a numeracy or literacy worksheet comes home (I think about every fortnight and they are alternated between the two subjects).

Sorry, yes and we should have had a reading book each week, but DS didn't bring it home, he hid it in his drawer because he doesn't like them!
