Just wondering if it would be possible for ds who is on white book band to be working at 3b nc level. It looks too high in my opinion.

Nah, white is about 2a, I think.

IndigoBell · 14/09/2011 16:57

I think white is level 3

newtermnewname · 14/09/2011 16:59

Thought lime was level 3, Indigobell? DD1 got a 2a in year 2 SATs many years ago and she was reading white books then.

BetsyBoop · 14/09/2011 17:02

The list I've got (was posted on here before, but I don't have the link, just the doc) says white = 2a

IndigoBell · 14/09/2011 17:03

sorry, you're right. White is 2a

Band Colour NC Level
1 Pink - W
2 Red - W
3 Yellow - 1 (C)
4 Blue - 1 (C/B)
5 Green - 1 (B)
6 Orange - 1 (B/A)
7 Turquoise - 1 (A)
8 Purple - 2C
9 Gold - 2B
10 White - 2A
11 Lime - 3

bath70 · 14/09/2011 17:23

Thats what I thought. Yet ds has just been given targets for working towards 3a.
Just doesn't seem to equate.

OP posts:
IndigoBell · 14/09/2011 17:27

How often are these targets given to you?

It doesn't follow that she's a 3b, just because her targets are a 3a.

newtermnewname · 14/09/2011 17:31

what year Bath70? You're lucky to be even given targets, my DDs school have NEVER told me their targets for the next year. Well this year the worm is turning, I am going to ask and not be fobbed off, God Damn it!!

Sorry, as you were...ahem...

bath70 · 14/09/2011 17:31

This is the 1st time. He has just started year 3. Apparently got a level 3 in sats. Sheet said something like to go from 3b to 3a I must....

OP posts:
UpsyDozy · 14/09/2011 17:32

I have NO idea what any of this means?! My DD has just started Yr2, should the school be telling me about this?

newtermnewname · 14/09/2011 17:33

Has he just joined a different Junior school?

bath70 · 14/09/2011 17:34

I must admit I was impressed with receiving this info. 1st time for me newterm.
I guess because its a school with a large proportion of 3's awarded at ks 1 sats I am a little sceptical that this is a true reflection of his ability.

OP posts:
bath70 · 14/09/2011 17:36

No newterm goes to a combined school. JMI.
UpsyDozy don't worry I knew nothing at start of year 2.

OP posts:
UpsyDozy · 14/09/2011 17:36

What books are the bands referring to? Is it ORT?

bath70 · 14/09/2011 17:39

School uses lots of different books which are grouped in bands. Not sure what ORT level white is.

OP posts:
IndigoBell · 14/09/2011 17:40

You can be a level 3 and reading a white band book. It's not 100% accurate like that.

If she got a L3 in SATS, then that is what level she is.

UpsyDozy - the colours are book bands. Most schools use it and put stickers on their books to band them.

newtermnewname · 14/09/2011 17:41

Hmm. NC levels do not correlate directly to book bands, don't forget, he could have been reading at a higher level in class on a regular basis and played a blinder in the reading comprehension test. But I still find it a little suspect to award a 3b at white level.

We need mrz...

koalalou · 14/09/2011 21:12

not sure KS2 white book band is the same as KS1 white book band. DD1 was put onto white when she started Y3 (we'd just moved to the UK from overseas). DD2 was on white at the end of Y1 but not the same level of book at all (separate infants and juniors).

blackeyedsusan · 14/09/2011 21:51

dd reads white band books but is not doing all the associated skills for a level 3
