Is an hour a week enough? Ds's timetable is one hour one week then 2 hours the following week, one of these sessions is swimming.

Just wondered what other schools offered. Smile

2 sessions a week here - 45 mins each - but also 2 outdoor playtimes each day!

bigbadwolf · 13/09/2011 09:58

Three sessions a week here - 45 minutes each I think. Plus lots of sporty after school clubs.

DD is in reception so a year younger but she does 2 x 45 minute PE sessions a week, plus swimming once a week and then outdoor play at least twice a day.

She's shattered. Grin

This is on the timetable? not counting outside activites.

DD has 2 sessions a week - 1 is meant to be indoors and 1 outdoors, but they tend to do mainly indoors if it is cold outside. I'd like to see more, but there is so much else in the timetable I can't see where it would fit.

My niece goes to a private school (DD is state) and she does sport every day - but this is only achieved by an having an extra 50 minutes on the day - think I'd rather have the shorter school day and do "active things" out of school.

Oh and in Y1 I still get the impression that the bulk of the lesson is changing into PE stuff and then changing back Grin

CMOTdibbler · 13/09/2011 11:26

ds has an hour of games, and 45 mins of PE a week.

elphabadefiesgravity · 13/09/2011 11:27

In year 1 it was one 45 min session of PE per week an 1 double session of swimming per fortnight

Now ds is year 3 it is PE once week, games once a week and swimming once a week.

2 hours of PE is compulsary a week.

mrz · 13/09/2011 20:08

2 hours PE is a target not compulsory

livinonaprayer · 13/09/2011 20:16

DC get one session of indoor and one session of outdoor (approx 45 mins each) a week in ks2 and the same plus a music and movement type session in ks1. Plus they have a block of swimming at some point!

sugarandspiceandallthingsnice · 13/09/2011 21:30

I stand corrected mrz, always been told it is compulsary. Maybe I have worked in schools which consider it so?!
