haringey primary admissions 2012

The admission for 2011 in Haringey have been a bit of a nightmare with schools very oversubscribed due to something of a baby boom. Does anyone know what the word on the street is for 2012 - whether it is set to be better or worse?

Also does anyone know where Tetherdown catchment and Muswell Hill catchments are measured from at the schools?

Hello, have you phoned up haringey and asked them how far your property is from all the schools you are thinking about? MHP distance actually got bigger last year than the previous so you never know as you have to factor in siblings as well as current year birth rate, and these are things that no one is aware of until the applications are in.

I work in Haringey, but on the other side of the borough. I thought the oversubscription problem was more on my side than on yours (Wood Green, Tottenham, etc), and at least 3 schools on that side are being actively encouraged to expand, as well as taking bulge classes this academic year. Good luck, it is horribly stressful but there are loads of great schools in your area.

Tetherdown has been expanding from a one- to a two-form entry over the past 4 years or so. It always did have an incredibly small catchment area!

the catchment for tetherdown in 2011 was 0.221, for muswell hill primary it was 0.302, for coldfall it was 0.380, for rhodes avenue it was 0.415 which increased from previous years as it had opened up a 3rd form....so for subsequent years this means more siblings to compete with.
Unless you live very very close to a good school in the muswell hill area, your chances of getting in are very slim. That is the unfortunate reality.
2011 is no different from other years, the muswell hill and surrounding areas are family orientated, so lots of children, and these children tend to have siblings!

I don't think 2011 admissions were any more hellish than other years viz a viz over subscription at popular schools and siblings.

You can call admissions and ask how far your house is, although that won't tell you how many other applicants including siblings there will be.

It's all pretty intense from here on in, though, with endless discussions and comparing of stories with people.

Are there any plans to expand one of the schools here? For Sep 2011 there's a bulge class at Martin Primary School in Barnet, and I know from friends that in Richmond they rotate bulge classes to different schools.

For this year my child would have been in the catchment of 1 school, in the year before 3, and I hope still in 1 for Sep 2012. Tricky not to panic!
