I have a dd due to start reception on monday at her allocated school but im having serious doubts about sending her there. The main problem is, the junior school she would have to go to if she attends this primary. It is awful, kids leaving in their droves, in a deprived area and various other problems. All of the other schools have been full to capacity so far but a space has come up at a local school in a nicer area and she could stay there til secondary school.

A space hasnt been confirmed yet and the admissions officer said this could take up to a week to do and im not definately guaranteed a place. Im going to have to start my dd at her allocated school and wait and see what happens, my issue is, is it totally cruel to start her at one school and then a week later change her? how do kids of this age cope with things like this? is it totally cruel of me to consider this?

sorry for long post

DD changed after a term so muc longer to establish friendships, she was fine, a week will be fine, fingers crossed.

Not cruel at all - and kids are remarkably accepting. When it comes to school admissions, you just have to follow the system and keep on trying to get what you want. Hope it works out for you.

Personally I'd keep her at home for the week until you find out. She'll be starting a week after everyone else regardless of which school it is so I don't see the point of sending her to one school for a week just to move her

Sorry that should have said 'that way she'll be starting a week after everyone else...'

I would keep her at hom for a week. What's the point of her starting to settle in one place only to have to start again a week later?
