Can anyone give me any insights into any of these schools? Looking at entry to Year 3.

Very impressed by Croydon High but concerned about staffing issues. They said they do 11+ prep is that true? Also I was told that 40% of this years Yr 6 did not go on senior school - just wondering why this is as senior school looks very impressive?
Cumnor Girls - really liked it but just wondered if all that 11+ prep is worth it if my daughter is going to end up at Croydon High or Old Palace anyway?

Old Palace - junior school seems very academic - girls did not seem very happy - anybody know it well?

I was also looking at Cumnor Boys for my son but put off by attitude of headmaster - seems like they are very tough on small boys and atmosphere seems also pressurised and competitive.

What is most important to you about their schooling? How easy is the commute to each? And have you been around each? And do you have other children to consider?

Sorry, but a general comparison is probably not going to help you - the schools probably have more in common than significant differences. Don't underestimate the difficulties of the school run if you have sons elsewhere (though Cumnor do run a shuttle between their 2 sites).

Hi my DS is currently in yr5 at Cumnor he started in yr3. I am very happy with the school so is DS. I haven't found it at all pressurised, boys are encouraged to work hard and discipline is very good without been heavy handed. Boys are prepared well for the 11&13 plus. This years result were excellent with one boy getting the Queen's Scholarship for Westminster school. My only grip with the headmaster is his reluctance for boys doing the 10+ for the local independent schools therefore boys are not prepared for the 10+.

In fairness to PCH not many headteachers want to see good pupils leave before year 6. That said I do think that that whilst it prepares the boys thoroughly for T & W 11+, it doesn't prepare for the grammar schools at all, which I feel is not well advertised. The current Year 5 at Cumnor is a relatively small yeargroup (in comparison to the 2 years either side) so would have had a good experience of plenty of opportunities for boys in terms of choir/drama/sport etc.

I believe by the reference to Old Palace and Croydon High mom14 and SouthLondonMum are looking at Cumnor House for Girls, which does prepare for the grammar schools (100% success for Wally Girls this year).

thank u ladymuck, yes i have a daughter and we want to move out from a flat to a house so before we buy a house I thought it would be good to decide on the school.I still have another year.If I have to choose cumnor house then probably a house in purley would be good.So based on the school commute we want to decide on the area. And i have only 1child.She is going to the old palace nursery at the moment and I like old palace but have heard mixed reviews about the juniors section. So if u know any info pls pass on.
