Does anyone know the dates of these, please?

My exH has asked if he can take my DD10 abroad for two weeks next year, and I think it's only a couple of weeks before the SATS......how much preparation will she expected to do, can anyone advise - thanks

If he got a secure level 4 (4b) I would expect him to be at level 6 by the end of KS2 a low level 4 could go either way level 5-6 but remember that is the expected level for 14 year olds.

CardyMow · 28/08/2011 12:45

YY - I know it's the expected lvl for 14 yo's - DD is 13.5yo, and is working between lvl 2 & lvl 4 depending on subject...

DS1 is a brainbox too clever by half! His maths ability bis starting to outstrip my own.

mrz · 28/08/2011 13:12

I think it's easier to achieve a level 6 in Maths (and science ) than in English which requires a higher level of maturity than most 11 year old children possess.

I agree, and reading is easier than level 6 writing, for the same reason, I think. I've seen a fair number of level 6 mathematicians and readers, but only one level 6 writer.

Worried about science, as the school has a VERY poor record with science teaching. Been the same on the last 2 Ofsted reports. Do a LOT of scienc-y stuff at home though. What sort of books would you be reading for lvl 6?

Does your grammar exam test Science?

You really should be concentrating on whatever the 11+ tests, and not worrying about school levels.

There isn't necessarily a direct correlation.

But he certainly sounds like he should be getting in (unless it's one of the super super super selective grammars....)

Feenie · 28/08/2011 17:34

There are no tests for Science, if that helps, apart from a small random sample of schools.

CardyMow · 28/08/2011 21:10

Erm... it IS a super selective...CRGS...We are concentrating on the verbal reasoning and the reading 'older' texts. He's reading A Christmas Carol right now.

I'm sure DD had to do a science SAT? Or should have done, if the school had let her tske them? She's just about to start Y9?

Feenie · 28/08/2011 21:27

They abandoned them a couple of years ago Smile

CardyMow · 28/08/2011 21:28

Oooooohhhh I see. I was expecting DS1 to have to do science too. Why aren't they doing science SATS anymore then?

Feenie · 28/08/2011 21:37

They ditched 'em. 2010 I think? Like I said, they make sure they benchmark by doing a random sample - my ds's school had them this year, but he was in Reception, so it's a long way off for him.
