ds is starting to bring bits home from school this week and Im appalled at his handwriting - most of it is done with what seems like a blunt thick pencil. some of it is from last year or earlier this year but a good amount is recent.

Is this the norm, will they work on this in year 2...How can I help him to write well neater?!

I have just bought some A4 whiteboards with pre printed cursive letters on them for letter formation practice.

Look on google/ebay they are under £5.

I'd say it's normal and yr2's notorious for kids making huge leaps, especially boys. My DS's writing was illegible at end of Yr1 and is really good now (end of yr2).

thanks. His writing at home is alot neater when he writes in birthday cards etc... I asked him if the pencils were blunt and he said yes and thick.

In maths also doesnt help I suppose the book doesnt have lines in so writing travels upwards! also he seems to circle things alot...very messy...will see how it goes!
