Trouble with writing and spelling - Dyslexic?

DS2 (9) has problems writing and spelling, he is behind in his levels and in yr 4, I'm worried he may be dyslexic - but finding it hard to get any further with the school, as they say his reading is okay. They did a test in reception with all the children and he came out okay. What should I do?

What would you do if he was dyslexic?

Do that now.

I have started getting him help with his Literacy outside school, but was not sure on how much help I can ask for (or demand) inside school (at the moment he is getting 15 min a day!) he is about 1 1/2-2 years behind where he should be. School treating me like an over anxious parent!

If he is getting 15 mins a day, then they are concerned about him.

Schools always treat parents like over anxious parents.

Thing is - a dx of dyslexia will not help your child to write and spell. No one really knows what the answer is - although there are lots of theories :)

But a dx won't bring you much (or any) help. School are already doing everything for him they know how to do - and so is your outside tutor.
