Google SATs papers, go to the St. Joseph school site, there are lots of PDFs of past papers for free .
I can't work out how to cut and paste the link on my iPod, but will post when I get near my PC.

Big thank you Hunted

KATTT · 13/07/2011 12:52

Thank you.

Sorted for the holidays. Every time they say they're bored..... :)

HauntedLittleLunatic · 13/07/2011 12:59

Don't thank me - thank startail that found them :).

I did the easy bit - adding hyperlink - although once upon a time that wasn't actually so easy.

ElbowFan · 13/07/2011 14:46

...and we worry about schools teaching to the test!

seeker · 13/07/2011 14:51

Don't practice SATS. They are there to make sure the school is doing what it should be doing in getting children to make the progress they should be making. If parents coach their kids they are letting schools off the hook.

And there are no circumstances in which SATS results matter to individual children. Honestly. They only matter to schools and parents.

ElbowFan · 13/07/2011 15:27

Bravo seeker!

KATTT · 13/07/2011 16:27

seeker

Yeah but it stops them moaning about being bored!

HauntedLittleLunatic · 13/07/2011 16:41

Correct me ido am.wrong - but ks2 sats tend to influence to some degree streaming for secondary school?

Personally - I want to look at the mental maths tests specifically because this is one area of development highlighted for my dtds but I have no real understanding of format/difficulty so this will really help me. Not to use them as tests but to guide me as a parent giving appropriate support.

I also feel that - although sats are primarily to assess schools (with secondary proviso above) I want my dtds to do well at secondary and if some home support facilitates that then my dtds will be better off. If I understand the curriculum (which sats should reflect) then I can support appropriately.

I stress that I have no intention as using these as tests...mearly guidance for home support.

HauntedLittleLunatic · 13/07/2011 17:06

And I am not saying that I that they should be used to direct secondary streaming...I just thought they were to some degree.

mrz · 13/07/2011 17:22

Since the SATs are likely to change next year why do you want them? Hmm

mitz · 13/07/2011 19:53

mrz

They enjoy doing them - my 7 year old just had a go at the maths one.

mrz · 13/07/2011 20:13

Why old SAT papers and not something relevant?

mitz · 13/07/2011 20:35

mrz

It's all just maths... isn't it? It hasn't gone out of date?

HauntedLittleLunatic · 13/07/2011 20:37

I wasn't aware of the change. Is the curriculum changing then? I want to look at the papers to give me an overview of the curriculum (and much easier to read, albeit shallower, than the national strategies website).

I didn't think changes to national curriculum were expected to be implemented until Sept 2012 onwards.

Personally I plan to use them as a guide.to the sort of problems dtds will be asked to answer so that I can incorporate those sorts of problems into everyday life in the same way as I regularly throw random times tables at them - for example as we drive along a long journey. I don't plan to sit them down with an exam paper a pencil and a stopwatch.

I will use them as a resource alongside bitesize, woodlands primary and other resources recently recommended which I can't get to cos threads I'm on OS broken :(

2BoysTooLoud · 13/07/2011 20:42

I must have an odd year 1 son. Doing SAT papers would not be his idea of fun.
[School work is for school mummy].
Don't think I hot house enough!
He is not bored enough for SATS papers......

mrz · 13/07/2011 20:55

Yes the curriculum is changing HauntedLittleLunatic

2BoysTooLoud it's probably just as well as the tests are for the end of Y6 Grin

HauntedLittleLunatic · 13/07/2011 20:59

Bit when is the NC changing (i ask this in a 'professional' capacity rather than parental capacity as I have to do a primary placement and hope I don't have to change my whole dissertation - I thought implementation for core subjects was autumn 2012 and non core the following year)

2BoysTooLoud · 13/07/2011 21:00

Err that would be pushing him somewhat MRZ!!
Just get bit fed up with all this SAT talk.. yes even in year bloody 1.
Had reports today and my ds doing fine [but not mumsnet genius levels].
Will try and keep out of chat tomorrow at school gates as pisses me off..
Sorry.. another glunk of Wine.

mrz · 13/07/2011 21:04

English Maths Science & PE will be published and in schools 2012
Other subjects will be published in 2013

but the Bew report/recommendations is only concerned with National Curriculum Testing (KS2 SATs)

HauntedLittleLunatic · 13/07/2011 21:12

Fab...hadn't seen that one mrsZ will look more closely at that and sneak into my dissertation as that is one report we haven't been handed on a plate and as I am looking at ks2-3 transition I can see things I can discuss for brownie points!

AmberLeaf · 13/07/2011 21:19

Corblimey OP...I bet you were that child that always asked the teacher 'have you set homework miss?'

If they get bored in the summer hols.....go for a walk, play in the garden/park/read/ride a bike/go to a museum/dissect next doors dog...ok maybe not the last one, but anything other than making them do a fecking SATS paper!!

Seriously!!! let them be children
