Yr 5 report?

Hi,
Just wanted to find out how far behind my dd is-I got her report yesterday and she got a 3a for literacy a 3c for Maths and a 4b for reading-now I know her reading is ok but I am worried about the other 2-is this average of a Yr 5 child or should we be concerned?
I am looking at getting her a tutor for maths next year and she does get 1/2hr daily 1-1 support at school for maths from the outside specialist base unit.

On our year 5 reports we show "average expectations" to be 3a/4c so literacy ( presumably writing) and reading would be fine. Maths we would consider bottom end of "slightly below average" and needing additional support.

The school have obviously identified her maths as a weakness if they are putting that much support in place for her. In my school, 3a for writing is the expectation for end of Y4, but that is above the national average which is 3b.

National expectation is level 3b for Yr 5 so maths is slightly low but not dramatically.
Your child is obviously doing well in other areas so I would not stress too much. The target for yr 6 end is level 4 and I would assume in a year they would get there but if you are concerned extra sessions may be useful in six months time!

If the national expectations are a level every two years, and a 2b at the end of Y2, then 3b is the expectation for EOY4 and 4b for EOY6.

No, this is not true.

National expectation in Year 5 is 3a/4c, your daughter is working above the expectation in reading, at the expected level in writing and below expectation in Maths.

It sounds like the school have intervention sessions in place already though, which is great.

DD is in Y5 and her report came out yesterday, I am a little concerned that her Maths has only gone up one sub-level. DD saw the report and burst into tears as she thought she was working on a higher level too

DD keeps this teacher next year so am trying to think of how to approach teacher tactfully, teacher is very lovely so don't want to upset her.

Expected progress in KS2 is 3 sublevels ever two years. Obviously, you can't show 1.5 sublevels of progress each year as we can't award a 3a.5, but children will often go up one sub level one year and then two the following year.

Hi teachermumof3 dd got 4c at end oy Y4, and 4b now.
I appreciate it's "above" the avg, but is still less progress than we (and she) had expected over the year - does that make sense.

Interesting re the 1.5 subelvels, again is that the "avg"?

Yes-that's the expected amount of progress. You are supposed to go up 3 sublevels (or one complete level) in two years. Did she get a 3b at the end of Year 3?

Not sure - I will check her school reports when I get home
