Chapter books for 5 -year olds

Hello - I stumbled on the "Just So Stories" by Kipling and my DS1 is just loving them. He is still a bit young of course, but he asks for one every night and they are just the right length for him to relax and listen before falling asleep. Has anyone else got any chapter books to recommend? I've heard Peter Pan can be a bit dark and the last thing I want is to stop him having lovely dreams...

Mr Majeika, easier Roald Dahls, Horrid Henry (if it won't affect his behaviour!) Flat Stanley, a load of the stuff in sets on Book People.

DS1 loves Professor Branestawm (and so do we) but be warned, they are pretty difficult to read aloud as the sentences are long and sometimes crazily structured.

He also likes Paddington

My DD is 6 but loves the Daisy Stories, they have slightly larger writing and they are not too complex in terms of vocabulary.

DS loved Roald Dahl. We tried reading him some Enid Blyton short stories from a book we found but he declared them 'rubbish' (TBH, they were a bit 'dated' - I was getting annoyed with them).

My DS is also 5 and loves all the Roald Dahl stuff (apart from The Witches which he said was "too scary"

We have just finished Paddington Bear and have now started My Naughty little sister which is proving a big hit especially as he has a naughty little sister

Oh, neatly forgot Mrs Pepperpot was liked too

My DS loves 'the 100mile-an-hour Dog' series of books.

Pippi Longstocking is v v funny. DD (nearly five) is loving it.

My DD old just loves Naughty Little Sister series, easier Roald Dahls - Fantastic Fox, George's Marvellous Medicine. Jeremy Strong books also a hit here

Mine loved Enid Blyton, especially Famous Five at that age. I read The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and Swallows and Amazons set to dd1 . Dd2 loved The Little House books and When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit (autobiography of Judith Kerr) which set her into reading war stories and autobiography stories for children.
Ds (4yo) loves a little set of stories called "When Robert Went to Playgroup" (Anne Rooke) and Naughty little sister, and Milly Molly Mandy.

I was talking about this yesterday - anyone tried charlie and the chocolate factory with that age group?

Personally I can't bear paddington! Have hidden them all!

Enid Blton - Enchanted Wood, Magic Wishing Chair etc. DD also loves Famous Fice, Secret Seven and Twins at St Clares, but they are dated.

We have done Charlie etc - DD is 4 nd we have done all the Roald Dahl apart from Danny, Champion of the World, as I think that will be better when she is a bit older.

can you still get secret 7 stories (cheaply?)

mr majeika is highly recommended. dd loves them.

We are reading various young corgi books from the library, lots of sport based stories about boys. Typically 5 chapters per book , perfect for bedtime story.
