DS starts Primary School in Sept. What to buy?

DS starts Primary School in September. I have the uniform under control but wondered what else you bought?

Satchel? (I've ordered a school book bag).
He's school dinners so no lunch box needed.
I know I need a water bottle.
What about a pencil case? And what should be in it? I'm presuming things like felt tips are a no go but will he even need coloured pencils or are they provided?
Anything else I've forgotten?

Our school doesn't recommend pencil cases for reception children, they provide these items for children in the Infants.

Some schools only want children to have clear water bottles so I'd check with the school on that one too.

We have to buy small cash envelopes from the school to put dinner money in but he may want a small wallet if he ever needs to take money in for any other reason, like school trips.

The school book bag should be fine but our school asks that food and drink isn't put in with the books so we send the water bottle and drink in a separate bag.

School should tell you about anything you need.
If an English state school you won't need a pencil case etc as these will be provided.
You will also need a bag for his PE kit.

Some schools require indoor shoes.
As well as uniform you'll need a PE kit (check what school requires) and suitable clothing for outside (Reception children can spend a lot of time outside so you need a warm, waterproof coat and hat, gloves etc for cold weather.
Also sun hat and suncream (if it is sunny in September!). Again, check school policy on sun cream.

Um, can't think of anything else.

Check with the school - they should tell you what you need.

DD needed book folder (from school) and pe bag, water bottle.

Label everything! I also got some personalised name keyrings and put them on her bags and coat zip - makes it easier for her to spot her coat out of all the identical school coats.

our school doesnt have a book bag so dd has a backpack as a school bag. No PE bag required either as PE stuff just goes in the backpack on the relevant days. DD needs indoor shoes for school as they change in and out of their outdoor shoes at break time/lunch time/hometime. Ours dont need a pencil case as pencils, etc are provided. She is allowed any water bottle.

normally a book bag and PE bag available from school. Drink bottle from the school although many use own as its easier to recognise. A lunch box too as not allowed food in book bag incase they ruin their reading books. I put keyrings etc on her book bag to make it more recognisable and ordered name tags online.

A good winter coat is a must! I bought DD a lovely ted baker one which i loved but it was so impractical! Get a good thick duffle coat with a hood definitely. No stationary needed usually.

The school my charge is at
lunch bag cannot have school dinners due to severe allergies use the soft ones we have several and i tend to wash them in the washing machine as they do get yucky lots of small pots to go inside plus to take fruit in for snack time.
Water bottle we have several as there are times they get left at school.
Name lables very much needed 30 jumpers etc all very confusing shoe labels as well charge had two freinds over yesterday all had the same shoes

spare gloves hats they will get lost quite often other children will take them home by mistake

I'd pop into the School Office and have a chat with them, the staff in ours are busy but will always take time to talk to you over stuff like this.
