congrats........that is fantastic...I know how you feel........brilliant
it is great that you had today and you know the result immediately..

This is really good news.
If you genuinely have a good case for admission because a mistake has been made then usually you do reap the benefits of your hard work.

Well done, you must be over the moon for fighting what feels like the impossible.

marysgarden · 17/06/2011 00:03

I was shocked too that we got the answer today, but I guess if it was upheld at stage one they would have to tell you because I didnt need to go onto the balancing stage of my own personal reasons. It has been a absolute horrendous couple of months trying to prepare and gather evidence etc but with shere determination and researching it has finally paid off. Good luck to you chopchopquick I believe you have another 2 appeals coming up? Best of luck, at least you know what to expect at the hearing now.

Congragtulations! so pleased, great to hear about someone winning a infant size appeal.

I am all prepared for mine but have just found out that they arent until 13th July. Another month of worrying and stress on top of my sons medical problems :( just hope its all worth it

marysgarden · 18/06/2011 10:01

Good luck The3Bears I know how you are feeling. The wait is just awful, it is very hard to remain positive, I struggled too. But as long as you feel you are prepared and know what you want to say, you will be fine. I should also point out though, that my appeal was for a year 3 admission, not infant. Good luck!!

We had our appeal on Thursday and have had a letter this morning letting us know that we have been successful!! We are so pleased and relieved that DD will be able to go to the same school as DS in September.

A huge thank you to admission, Panelmember and prh47bridge for all your help and advice on our case!

I had my appeal hearing for two primary schools and I was successful with both appeals. One of the schools I had already visited, the second one I hadn’t as the school had a policy of no visits because of covid. I called the school up to arrange the visit and the office staff from the onset tried his best to discourage me to take up the place. He questioned me as to why I wasn’t taking the other school place where one of my children already attends and how the year he was coming into was oversubscribed. My reason for wanting this school was because my son is in Year 5, we will be applying for school places in September 2022 and this particular school is a feeder sxhool for the high school I want him to attend. We also live in the catchment for that high school and therefore he would have a better chance of getting in. After several questions from the staff member I did point out to him that it was irrelevant as my appeal was successful on its own merit and as the parent it was my choice entirely. I arranged to visit this school this week and then ended the coversation.

I then called the school up a few days later to say that I had decided to accept the place and would like a start date but I still would visit the school with my son. This same member of staff then went into the same as above and started to question me about how my son had autism and would struggle in this school, how would I manage the children in 3 different schools, how this school was oversubscribed and was a small school. I pointed out that I was finding this offensive and he said his job was to collect this information for the Head teacher.

At that point I had enough and asked what was his role in the school to which he said he was the school bursar and part time office staff. I have a visit booked this week and the Head teacher will be showing us around. 1. I am really put off with this encounter and feels like they dont want him there at all. 2. I feel tempted to bring this to the Head teachers attention as I feel it was totally out of order. Can I have some advice to how any of you would approach this? 3. I have been given the places based on the children have gone through life changing trauma in the last year along with two of my children have autism. Academically very able but struggle with social and emotional especially new places and transition. It make me worried that when I am not there how will they treat him.

Hi @Ocean12345 that sounds quite worrying. I would suggest you start a new thread to ask for some advice, so as to leave @marysgarden to enjoy her moment on this thread. You might get some more specific advice that way, if the title of your thread indicates what you're looking for. Best of luck.

PanelChair · 27/04/2022 11:06

This thread is 11 years old, so marysgarden has had ample time to celebrate!

Ocean - You are doing the right thing. Be like a broken record and keep repeating that the panel heard all the arguments, allowed the appeal and you intend to take up the place.

sorry i didn’t mean to take over someone else’s thread I am new here and can’t work out how to post separately
