Help needed with Edwardian and 1920's costume days for school

I could really do with some help on ideas for Edwardian costume and 1920's for girl in y1. It is the school's centenary and they want the whole school in Edwardian costume one day and then each class has been given a decade for another day - ours is 1920's (wish it was 1960's or 70's - that'd be easy!). I refuse to go out and buy - seems ridiculous to spend money - I'd rather donate the money to the school and I am totally crap at sewing (can just about manage a button). So anyone any ideas - please???

For twenties I would take a cheap vest top and sew a gathered skit to it at drop waist lenght then you just need a headband.

For 20's I'd go for a 'flapper' type thing - easiest would be if you've got a plain summer dress to knee length. Fashion some sort of belt (maybe some lace or a fringey type of curtain material so that it sits at hip height (could secure it with safety pins if you don't want to sew it in place). Long pearl necklace (or any beads). And a headband - maybe lace - with a decorative something (feather or whatever) at one side.

Edwardian's more empire line dresses and lace umbrellas type of thing, isn't it? Hmmm....tricky. Or I guess kiddy Edwardian might be just a pretty dress with a gathered skirt? Don't know. That is hard!!!

1920's childs costume:
Does your dd have a drop waisted dress? Very 1920's especially if flower print or stripes. A shift style dress would also work ( think Milly Molly Mandy) , especially if you could indicate a drop waist with a sash or tie of some sorts. Smock style dresses were also "in" for children (esp early 1920s). Can wear socks at mid calf length (even stripy ones!) and mary jane type shoes ( maybe ordinary school ones?). Pinafores and gym slips are also 1920s especially with drop waist. Dresses and blouses often had peter pan style rounded collars. A knitted cardigan would complete the look ( especially if wool and hand knitted!).
I think you could probably adapt a modern pinafore or summer dress school uniform, although dd might prefer to be a flapper.
