Which local authority school??

I'm currently trying to move house and have seen a house that is on the cusp of two local authorities and am trying to work out what this means for schools.
The house is in Kirklees LA, but the nearest school is in Calderdale LA. Would my dd be able to apply to attend the Calderdale school or would we have to apply to the other LA.
My dd is only 8 months old but I'm not planning on moving again before she starts school so want to make sure she would be able to attend a good school.

Yes you can apply for the school in Calderdale but there will be no guarantee of a place. Is it Ainley Top by any chance. We moved from there cos of schools issue

At present, there would be no bar to doing this - but who knows what these schools (and their admissions policies/catchment areas) will be in a few years time?

Also, if you think you may need to rely on school buses, bear in mind that councils are cutting back on provision and might decide they would only fund you for either nearest school, or nearest school within the authority (ie, no objection to you exercising choice, but no obligation to provide transport for all choices). Again, this cannot be predicted this far in advance.

Vicki, we're looking at Outlane, so not far from Ainley Top. We need good Motorway access so its ideal for that but it means moving out of Calderdale by about a mile!
Thanks for the advice meditrina, thats a good point about buses.
Part of the problem is that the nearest school will be in Calderdale but we would be in a different local authority.
Hmmmmm...... think this needs more thought!

Well I don't know if this helps...

We live on the border of 2 councils. I live in the rubbish one and applied for brilliant schools in the other council borough. Our son attends nursery at the moment at 1 of the school we applied for.

My son didn't get a place at the school and we only live 1.7 miles from the school. We have just appealed the decision and that was unsuccesful, so he has to go to school in our council borough now, and those schools are rubbish. We are going to move but that's not going to help him this September term.

My advice would be research the school fully you want yourlittle one to attend and move as close as physically possible to it.
