St Hilda's Bushey/Radlett Prep

Can anyone tell me anything about these two schools. I'm currently living abroad and am due to return to London in a month's time by which time the schools will be on holiday. We've been offered a place in Year 4 at St Hilda's but I need to decide whether to make a quick trip back to London to visit the schools and have our daughter assessed for Radlett Prep or whether to just go ahead and accept the place at St Hilda's. I can get a fairly good impression from St Hilda's website but not so much from Radlett Prep.

I would appreciate any input.

St Hilda's is a fabulous school. It nurtures the girls well and prepares them for the 11+ schools. Radlett prep is also good but in my opinion StH is a nicer environment. If she has a place then if it was me I would accept it.

Both schools are very good. St Hilda's is a small school with 10 or 12 pupils in a class and the girls are very lovely and confident while Radlett prep has very good academic rating with about 20 in the class but you need to bring in packed lunch and both schools prep the pupils for 11+.

The problem with Radlett Prep for girls is that there are hardly any.. In fact, I know of one person who took their girl out of there after a year as the numbers are so low (low digits).

I don't know anything about St Hilda's but wouldn't personally pick Radlett for a girl.

Hi - I'm a mum at St Hilda's and I absolutely love there. Great mix of broad education, amazing teachers and the girls are really happy, very well mannered, very confident etc. I've heard Radlett Prep is a bit of a hot-house.Girls get into all top schools - would firmly recommend St H....

Summer - we looked at st Hilda's for you gets but heard their Reception classes have almost 30 girls in... In this the case? Local state school only has 22 children so would be interested to compare :)

Do you mean the St Hilda's in Bushey? It was on our shortlist for DD as the last report was excellent and the girls seem to go onto good schools but we were concerned about the falling numbers, and the last set of accounts which didn't look very healthy and we felt it was a bit of a risk.

Maybe I am thinking of the st Hilda's in Harpenden?!

Just wanted to comment about falling numbers at St Hilda's Bushey. We were a bit worried too a couple of years ago, but it was because the old Head was leaving. She was lovely, but she'd been there for ages and was about to retire. New Head is now two years in and is amazing: very dynamic and focused. Numbers are already much higher with a waiting list at 3+. She's just had Head of North London Collegiate in to teach interview practice to senior girls. Am very impressed as a mum.

Jingling - think you must mean Harpenden. 30 sounds far too many for a state school. About 15 in a class at St Hilda's Bushey. (Sorry - only taken 9 months to reply to you! :-))
