Get one or two with the logo, and some plain in the same colour. Most schools are not that fussy. Reception children get covered in paint/pens too!

My DS1 started Reception in September and the school implied that the children needed the polo shirts with logos on...it turns out that it really doesn't make any difference. Ds1 has worn his jumper most of the time so no-one has been able to see his shirt and even when he hasn't, nobody cares about his shirt!

I bought 3 and then got a pack of 3 plain ones from M&S (and then have since bought another pack of 3 from Next as he grew out of the M&S ones a couple of months ago!)

I've never bothered with the polo shirts as underneath jumper/cardigan/pinafore anyway. But have got a couple of logo'd jumpers.

ceebeegeebies · 18/05/2011 22:09

Ooh yes wednesday I forgot about that. One of DS1's logoed shirts is now covered in red paint marks that I can't get out so that was well worth the money Hmm

I buy the logo jumpers/cardigans but just plain polos.
In reception they get messy, I would just go with the cheapest option!

Yes you might not realise but these days they learn to write letters with mini whiteboards and permanent drywipe pens Hmm and what do little boys do with a pen when they are bored? draw on themselves, and each other.

Coffeeisking · 18/05/2011 22:25

Ahh, the damn drywipe pens! dont pay out for expensive poloshirts, those pens are a pain to get out!

were getting to the end of the year now, and DS shirts are covered. and they are put on a white boil wash every week.

i bought logo tops to wear with skirts and plain tops for pinafores - m&s.

blowninonabreeze · 18/05/2011 22:33

I got plain polos as DD wears a pinafore to school so you wouldn't be able to see the logo anyway.

Got the logo cardi though.

Was about to buy a jumper (without thinking) when a mum with an older Daughter in the school gave me the very useful tip that the girls DON'T wear jumpers! (personally don't think my DD would have given a fig (major tom boy) but its worth finding out what is the norm in your school)

washing with a tablet of soap and cold water to remove stains works quite well... and get the plain polo shirts. do school have a second hand uniform sale too? I rang the office to find out and have got all her jumpers and cardis for a pound each. she wears a jumper because it is warmer. she is wearing boys trousers too as they fit better, cover her knees (prone to falling over) and keep the sun off her legs.
