DD starts in September and have completely forgotten which books we read to DS. Have got a Charlie and Lola one but have hidden it as Lola doesn't wear school uniform, takes sandwiches and walks home with her friend instead of a Parent, managing expectations and all that Grin

So what do you recommend?

The Usborne first Experiences one about staring school.

Lots of Shirley Hughes ones are, I think, and have lovely pictures of school life to talk about. V dated though.

Topsy and Tim.

There is a Harry and the Dinosaurs one, but I have a feeling they don't wear uniform in that one either.

Thank you for the suggestions so far. Have looked at our library's online catalogue and they seem to have them all so will be doing a bit of ordering.

More suggestions welcome though too of course.

DD enjoyed the Topsy & Tim one, but her favourite one is "A Pocketful of Kisses" by Angela McAllister.

She still reads it now & if ever DH or I are going anywhere (eg when I was in hospital overnight for a planned op) she gives us a "pocketful of kisses" before we go, bless. :)

ort, Kipper at school, he does wear a uniform (first experiences

cleversticks, if it is still in print.

there is one where a boy cries so much that he floods the classroom, can't remember it's name unfortunately.

The Berenstain (sp?) bears one. They have a book for every concievable experience. But they are bears, and Americans, so not so good for realistic potrayal.

Harry and the Dinosaurs. Definately.

Wemberley Worried is a sweet story of a perpetually worried little mouse who is concerned about starting school. The story makes it clear that worrying is natural and fine and people will be sympathetic, rather than sugar-coating the school experience and brushing the worries under the rug. Makes it clear that everyone else is in the same boat.
