Can't quite believe this!

Wasn't sure where to post this! but happened at school so her goes! Shocked and very embarrassed but not had huge reaction before I decided what it should be. Dd's reception teacher took me to one side today and said she had chosen to pull down her pants and show off her "wares" today. Not to all I don't think and she is very contrite. Is this significant? Racing ahead of myself and possibly making more of this than is needed, but hoping the incident won't be remembered forever.

hahaha that's the kind of thing i'd have done in primary school

IMO it's just one of those things that kids do. don't worry about it

TheVisitor · 16/05/2011 16:45

Don't panic! I bet all the kids she showed it too thought it hilarious. It's not unheard of behaviour for small people to be a little bit rude in this way.

Oh, bless her. My DS1 spent most of Reception with his hands down his pants, but stopped short of actually dropping them. I think it's just a case of a nice little chat about "private" bits and keeping them "private".

If she won't chat about it, I find that difficult conversations are often best had in the car when they have no eye contact with you.

Did the teacher think it was a major issue?

No, I don't think you need to worry, just one of those silly things they will grow out of - unless she does it all the time and also shows other sexualised behaviour.

Hulababy · 16/05/2011 16:50

Don't worry about it. The teachers will most definitely have seen this before on many ocassions. The children will have all found it hilarious ime (I work in an infant school).

Just remind your DD that private bits stay private in public.

Hulababy · 16/05/2011 16:51

Oh - and don't forget to make a note of it. A memory to embarrass her with when she is a much oldr teen Wink

DS2 decided to pull his shorts down and show his tackle off to some older girls when he was in reception.

He hasn't done it since, thank god.

frostymomma · 16/05/2011 16:56

Completely agree. Very normal (but hilarious). DD decided to take her clothes off in front of the patio doors when the window cleaner was here last week. So embarrassing Blush

I was a very independent child and the youngest of 3, one day I went into nursery in a little dress, quite short fashion of the late 70's and I had neglected to put on my knickers, this was noticed as I ran the length of the nursery room over the moon I had managed to get my hands on a large push along tank.
This story was talked about at my junior school leavers assembly 'Remember when roadkillbunny came to school with no knickers on' however it didn't blight me through my primary years just on occasion remembered as a funny story.

Thank you mumsnet!! I kind of guessed it might not be the end of the world but teachers look so serious and sincere when they tell you stuff like that and dh not home for couple of hours to tell me not to worry about it!
