Seeing childs work

My ds moved schools at Feb half term (he's reception). At the old school we had a parents evening in November and saw his work. At the new school the parents evening was the 1st week after Feb half term so we didn't go because he'd only been there 2 days. We're now thinking that considering he's been at the new school for half a term it would be nice for us to have a look at some of his work because we've not seen anything since November. Do you think its reasonable to ask the teacher if we could have a look and little chat to see how he's getting on academically etc? Or isn't it the done thing to do?

Teachers at DS's school wouldn't mind in the slightest. Might phrase it more about how he's settling in than academic progress - it's only reception

Yes, I'd think this was fine although you might want to check to see if another parents' evening is due before the end of the year. If it isn't too far away you could wait, but otherwise I think it is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

I'll ask when I pick up then and see if there is a time we can go in and see his work. Wasn't sure it was the done thing but sounds like it'll be ok.

I don't know what the done thing is, but in reception I spoke to the teacher quite frequently (every couple of weeks) as I worried about DS's socialising, behaviour, reading, maths ... Now in Y1 I don't talk to her that often, but if there is something bothering me I tend to ask for a little chat after school.

I think its quite reasonable that you want to know how DS is settling into a new school and see his work.

Are there any primary school teachers who know what the done thing is?

My Dt's moved school just after parent teacher meetings had taken place a few years ago. We were given a separate meeting about 6 weeks after they started to check on how they had settled. So I think it would be reasonable to request a chat

As parent I'd ask.

As a teacher I'd be more than happy to accomodate such a request.
