Help me with my application to be school governor please

I will be honest from the outset... I want to apply to boost my own CV for when it comes to me applying for the GTP in two years time. If the GTP doesn't exist then as is rumoured I will take whichever route is available to become a secondary English teacher.

It is so competitive these days so I want as much on my CV to set me apart from my competitors. I have school placements and voluntary work lined up but being a school governor (albeit primary) would be the icing on the cake.

I will be ringing the head tomorrow (she knows me as a mother who is interested in her dc's education). What sort of things should I be saying?

Thanks

Just to reiterate everything Admission and Dan have said. (Dan - Might I have met you in another forum?)

When I said that it sounds great that you are studying with a view to becoming a teacher etc, I mean that it's great that you have relevant interests and knowledge. It won't necessarily sound great if you mention it all in your election manifesto, for the reasons that Admission mentions. Stick to the stuff about skills in financial management etc and - I think for this school this will be the most important thing of all - about giving all the children the best possible school experience and helping the school continue on its upwards trajectory.

jgbmum

All types of Governor (Parent / Staff / LEA / Foundation / Community / Co-Opted / Head Teacher ) are equal and may vote.

There is, however, a position of ?associate member? of the governing body.

The definition is wide and people who want to contribute specifically on issues related to their area of expertise (for instance, finance) can be appointed as associate members.

Associate Members cannot vote at full governing body meetings. There are a few other voting and attendance rules about Associate Members as well.

Panelmember - how very dare you - it was never proved!

Dan - Obviously you are a member of more and racierforums than I am. So I'll take that as a yes.

Err. Serious strike out malfunction.

Look, first of all the bollard was the wrong colour and shouldn?t have been there and anyway Fire Brigade said that the danger had passed.

Sorry suwoo, I think this is becoming a 'thread hijack'.
I think it would be wise not to mention ?bollard? in your application.
