DD and reading - update!

Hi all,

I posted about 6 months ago regarding DD who was 3.9 at the time and interested in learning to read... well I continued to follow the advice from the thread, lots of reading together free access to book, phonics stuff in short bursts.... her enthusiasm fizzled out a little after christmas so we dropped down to just the normal reading to her stuff... the last week or so she has started mentioning phonics stuff again so have done a little - today she managed to sound out and blend CAT, DOG, MUM, DAD, YES - it was the blending back when I posted that she just hadn't clicked with - she and I were both over the moon! We were writing the words on one of them scribbler things - and sounding out, the first one she got straight away (on previous attempts we had about 2 mins of C-A-T followed by ... that says HOUSE or similar Confused) I think its finally clicked in her brain and she is just so excited!!! Grin

I have a feeling I am going to have a little bookworm on my hands soon... but am trying not to jump the gun!

That's lovely cheepcheepchoconora. Well done you and your DD Smile

Yes, blending (synthesising) is such a foundational skill for reading. Once she has mastered that she can really get going.

thanks maverick - she was able to sound it all out etc before, but just couldn't 'get' that C-A-T made CAT iyswim

so pleased with herself (as are we of course!) she has done some more today, and with a little help on some letters managed words like 'HAT' 'BIN' .... any ideas for easy starter ones would be greatly appreciate!!! I ran out of ideas earlier! Blush
