Clever child, mum can't even spell the word Smile

Anyone preparing their child for grammar? When did you start? what did you do? Any tips?

Is 8 too young for tutoring?

I should also say that DS is top 1 or 2 in his class (top 1 for Maths, slightly lower for Literacy) in a primary school with a generally quite academic intake. He could, for example, add and subtract negative numbers in reception, and scores very highly in e.g. the Primary Maths Challenge. I would absolutely not consider entering a child for a hyper selective grammar school if he was only 'top third', though I understand that you might do so in a completely grammar system where perhaps 10% rather than 0.1% of children go to grammar.

Have a look at this forum www.elevenplusexams.co.uk It has local pages and you can find out which question types your area uses. I'm going to start home practising with DS3 in Sept of Y5, giving him a year, but very low key and using the computerised questions first, as he loves anything on the computer. In our area its great comp, crap comp or next town's grammar, so we'll be using it as a safety option.
