Class teacher swops

Are there any teachers out there that can shed some light as to why the HT has decided to swop round most of the teachers for next September? 3 teachers are changing classes, two of which are swopping Key stage. Any thoughts??

Professional development? Teacher preference? Keeping up to date and fresh?

At our school we all like to have a bit of a change round every couple of years - the staffing is never the same two years running.It just keeps us all fresh and is good to teach different ages.

Agree, three years in the same year group then move if you want a balanced cv.
Sometimes you get a choice, sometimes it's made for you. If there's only 3 teachers moving then you are either a small or staid school.

I started teaching in Year 4, moved up to Year 5, stayed in Year 5 for two years and then moved up to Year 6. It looks like I'll be in Year 6 for a long while though now.

We're often swapping about, I've taught from y1-y5 with odd bits of year six here and there. Headteacher never decides to swap us around, it's generally a corporate decision made as a staff/by the people who are swapping with the head's approval/at her suggestion.

Only 3 moving - that isn't many? Normal to have a big swap around every couple of years.

By letter a few weeks before the end of the academic year in our school.

Teachers need to move around for professional development and to stop them getting stuck in a rut

I am amazed you know this already though, usually next years classes is a more closely guarded secret than Kates wedding frock!

We used to have a bitter laugh at parents who expressed dismay on behalf of teachers who were 'demoted' to reception /y1 .

The teachers themselves often expressed dismay at all of the extra 'hands on' work they would have to do.

Garbage - many Reception teachers, including ours, are outstanding. Reception is NOT a place to put struggling teachers.

Our headteacher (where I work) does this every so often. It's an infant school. Sometimes it is because individual teahcers have asked to try out another year group for a bit, to keep teir skills, etc, up to date in each year group; but also our HT likes to mix things up a bit too regardless. We haven't heard yet. I work as a TA thse days but have been in y1 for last three years and would quite like to stay where I am!

As for communication to parents. It isn't down formally unless mid academic year. The children, nearer the end of the summer term, will find who their new class teacher is, will have transistion with them, etc. and parents will find out then.

Crap teachers are more likely to get Y3 - no pressure from SATS.

I suspect DairyQueen hasn't actually worked anywhere near a reception/KS1 class with such a comment.
