4+ level ????

Ds has now moved to a new school and I was recently given a folder of his old test booklets from the old school.
One of his tests (level 3-5) was marked as a level 4+.

I thought it was a number and letter scheme. Other papers are marked 4c ect.
Can any teachers give me an idea of what level (abc) you might mark as 4+??
Thanks

Our school uses the phrases low (c) secure (b) and high (a) - I would imagine + refers to 4a

Some of the tests used at that age range assess levels two and three to sub level detail eg 3a, 2b etc but don't break down level four in the same way. Likely to be the case with the test you saw.

The 4+ was an English paper if that helps...
Maths was 4c+ (presumeably between c and b)?

How old is he? The only time I would write 4+ is if the test only really went as far as top 3 and a child exceeded it by some margin, which might therefore mean 4c.

well, this was dated March during yr 3.
I was told he had done very well, but have only just received the folder from the old school. (He left at the end of yr3 - last July)
Just wondered really, so I could keep track of his progress.

The booklet was titled 'levels 3-5'.

Can't be 4a at that age surely?!?

The y3 optional test only scores a 4, it doesn't sublevel it.

cupofteainpeace · 27/04/2011 21:15

Ah, so a 4 of any sort, whether + or c is basically saying the same thing.
That makes sense. They were marked by the same teacher which is why I thought there must have been some difference!

Thanks Feenie.

No problem. It's a good score in Y3, btw!
