Is there such a thing? Someone told me today that dd's school will be doing them. Are they such a big deal as the Y2 ones? And when do they happen?

There is only year 3, 6 and 9 sats. any other tests will just be school ones.

Sorry i meant year 2. not 3. time for me to go to bed.

Thanks! So that person probably made a mistake.

No the person has not made a mistake. In Y3,4 & 5 there are optional SATs which many schools choose to use.

We use the optional SATs in our school for years 3,4 and 5 as part of end of year assessment. We've found that doing them relieves the pressure of Yr6 SATs as the kids just look at them as the norm IYKWIM

mrz is correct. Many schools do optional SATs in Years 3, 4 & 5. They are marked and moderated within school and form part or all of their end of year final assessment level.

Ah - so maybe they are doing them then. But would they be about to start them now then or more at the end of the year? Do we get the results in the same way as we did in Y2?

Lots of schools use them at the same time Y6 is doing SATS but they can be used at any time in the year.
Schools don't have to report levels to parents but many do.

Bramshott · 27/04/2011 14:20

Our school does the optional SATs for Yrs 3-5 in the same week as the Yr 6 SATs, which is coming up soon. Luckily they're pretty low-key and DD1 (Y3) is not worked up about them at all.

So early May might be when they happen? Dd will be oblivious but I can make sure she gets plenty of early nights!
