Hi everyone,

I'm after some advice/opinion please. We are due to move house in May possibly June. Our son is 4 and 1/2 and due to start school in Sep so we need to apply for a school in the area. Does anyone have similar experience (moving to new area so late and getting their child into school)? What are his chances of getting a place? I'm worried he wont get a place as we are late!!
Our nearest school (Avenue Primary) is very close ( 547m and the furtherest child accepted is 865m) and has 70 on the waiting list. From what I see is a very good school. Any local mums that can give us their opinion of local schools pls. Our second closest will be Devonshire Primary and third Barrow Hedges Primary. Thank you.

You need to establish from the LA exactly when you can apply for a place - some LAs will let you apply when you exchange contracts, some only later than this.
For you the sooner the better as it is likely that you will be near the top of the waiting list and hence a better chance of getting a place with movement of pupils. Ask for place at all three schools and then ask to go on the waiting list for all three.
You can also appeal but I suspect most of the appeals will be infant class size regs cases and therefore you ahve to prove a mistake was made, which seems unlikely given the timing of your application.
If you apply for a place at the schools you will get offered something but it is not necessarilly going to be any of those schools.
