Hi, I am struggling to get feedback about the Royal Masonic School for Girls in Rickmansworth. Please if you have any recent information about the school please let me know. I visited it and it seems good but ISI report raises concerns about whether the girls reach their full potential particularly if they are able academically. This critisim does concern me however the report is 6 years old. Your feedback is most welcome especialy as I have a week or so to decide. Thanks

If the report is 6 years old then I would ask the school what they did/have done/are doing to address the issues raised. A school can change alot in one year....6 years is a very long time. Have you googled? try the local newspaper archives for activities to stimulate and stretch the more able. You should specifically ask the school about their 'gifted and talented' program as this is to enhance the education of the most able children so that they reach their full potential.

I know a lot of people very happy with the education there.

One family in particular have an extremely able dd on a double scholarship - they say the school has gone out of its way to ensure she receives a curriculum appropriate to her needs.

It has sharpened up academically in the last few years so I would say it has probably moved on a lot from that report. Certainly the view of the Good Schools Guide echoes that.

I would agree with what smallschool suggests - talk to the head directly.

Thank you weblette and smallschool. I did speak with the head of the Juniors. She said that they have focused on that issue since the report and offer differentiated work in class and for the very gifted offer enrichment classes. There is streaming in yrs 5,6. It is always reassuring to hear that current parents are happy.

Thanks again for your input.
