Which math workbook to buy?

I would like to buy a workbook (with basic math for my DS but do not know which one. My DS has Jolly Phonics and he is not interested in these books. In his pre- school year I bought him a workbook from School Zone www.amazon.co.uk/Preschool-Workbook-School-Publishing-Company/dp/0887431453/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1302712353&sr=1-1. He liked to work with it. School Zone sells workbooks in maths on amazon but this is an American publisher so I want something good but English. DS is 5. Many thanks!

There is a series called Magical Maths which are fun (and I think, at that age, it should be fun)

I say Magical Maths because that's the only one I can remember off the top of my head. There are several (including something like Horrendous Handwriting which DD enjoys)

If you are near a WH Smiths shop, you could have a browse through their workbooks ( the bigger shops usually have a good selection) and see what you think would appeal to your ds.

don't buy any, subscribe to mathletics for him and it will last him far longer and be more useful to him.

Rather than a book try some maths dice games - my girls really enjoy these, you can adapt the level depending on your childs ability and the children really seem to enjoy them.

Thank you very much for the suggestions. I think we will go to WHS and check the books. As for the on line games we have got a few good links but I do not want him to practice on line as he becomes glued to the computer watching animations. Also, with a book we can sit down and practice. We can open it wherever we want. I do not want him to become dependent on the computer. Thanks again! Please send me more suggestions. I appreciate your help very much!

Has anyone tried workbooks by Carol Vorderman? Math made easy for beginners. Is WHSmith has the widest collection of workbooks? Thanks again.

Carol Vorderman books are OK but not massively exciting in my opinion. WH Smiths has the best collection that I know of, particularly if you can get to a larger branch.

I would look at the schofield and sims website - lots of books for young children (foundation up to secondary level) and our children love them. Don't buy from from that website though, get them from Amazon with free P and P.
